Lorain, OH—The Nord Center and The LCADA Way are pleased to announce the addition of new service capacity at the Crisis Stabilization Unit at The Nord Center’s 6140 S Broadway campus.
In collaboration with the Mental Health, Addiction and Recovery Services Board, The Nord Center and The LCADA Way have implemented improvements that now make services available to help people manage the process of substance use withdrawal. This service provides a 24 hour per day supportive environment in which someone can begin or continue the process of withdrawal management. Clients benefitting from this service may be unable to get sober at home or not have a safe environment in which they can go through withdrawal and be successful.
In addition to medical, nursing and crisis stabilization resources, these services will be supported by the presence of peer support workers on the unit who will be able to engage clients and facilitate a more effective and therapeutic stay. Peer support workers are people who have been successful in the recovery process who help others experiencing similar situations. Through shared understanding, respect, and mutual empowerment, peer support workers help people become and stay engaged in the recovery process and reduce the likelihood of relapse. Peer support services can effectively extend the reach of treatment beyond the clinical setting into the everyday environment of those seeking a successful, sustained recovery process (SAMSHA, 2020).
The collaboration between The Nord Center and The LCADA Way is critical to delivering integrated and innovative care for two diseases that require such similar resources. By delivering integrated care, improved clinical outcomes go up and the cost of delivering care goes down. This improvement in providing immediate linkage of clients with Substance Use Disorder with crisis services will result in better care coordination for clients in our community. Furthermore, it will serve as foundation for the expansion of comprehensive crisis services within Lorain County.
