¡Basta Ya! is a campaign that wants to make people aware of sexual violence and help those who have experienced it.
But what is sexual violence? It happens when someone, no matter their age or gender, is made to do sexual things they don’t want to do or are too young to agree to. This can include showing a child inappropriate pictures, touching someone in a wrong way, or even rape.
What can sexual violence cause? It can lead to things like feeling very sad (depression), having scary memories (flashbacks), or even wanting to hurt oneself (self-mutilation). People might also have trouble with eating (eating disorders), trusting others, being intimate sexually, or may begin staying away from people (isolation). They might feel like they’re not worth much (low self-esteem) or even think about ending their own lives (suicidal thoughts).
Is sexual violence common? Unfortunately, yes. In the United States, someone is sexually assaulted about every 92 seconds. According to the Department of Justice, Latinos are the second-largest group affected by this crime.
We’re here to listen to you, and everything you say will be kept private because it’s okay to talk about it
