Mind over Miles 5K Run and 1M Walk

How it started:

The inspiration for the first annual Mind over Miles 5K Run and 1M Walk came from our Board member, Bret Buike (“Buckeye Bret”) who donated to The Nord Center and Recovery Resources all the proceeds of his third annual Goggins Challenge.

The Goggins 4x4x48 challenge is a simple concept that was pioneered by ultramarathon runner David Goggins. Depending on your level of ability, you either walk or run 4 miles every four hours for 48 hours which totals 48 miles. Bret had a vision to make the weekend one focused on recovery, mental health and veterans’ suicide prevention and to raise not only money but awareness of these important issues. And we were proud to have him complete his challenge at the Mind over Miles event.

How it’s going:

After a highly successful first annual event, we have opted to move the location for the second annual to ensure ample parking for our growing field of participants.

The second annual Mind over Miles 5K Run and 1M Walk will take place on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 9:00AM at Black River Landing in Lorain. We will be staging from a picnic pavilion with use of restrooms in the Train Station and ample parking. The racecourse will travel near the lake shore with a turnaround in Lakeview Park. This park is home to  Rockin’ on the River each summer and hosts a terrific view of the The Charles Berry Bridge, in Lorain, along U.S. Route 6 (US 6), the second-largest bascule bridge in the world.
