24/7 Emergency / Crisis Hotline 1-800-888-6161

The Nord Center’s Emergency Stabilization Services (ESS) offers crisis intervention services to any person in Lorain County experiencing an emotional or psychiatric crisis, including extreme feelings of despair, anxiety, stress, suicidal thoughts, assault, trauma and abuse. All services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • The Mobile Crisis Team provides on-site evaluation, treatment and crisis intervention to adults, adolescents and children in Lorain County experiencing a mental health crisis. Our team goes out to the person in need, so that the individual can remain in a comfortable environment. Evaluations can take place at any safe and private location such as a home, hospital or school as well as the ESS office on a walk-in basis
  • The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides the highest level of outpatient care available. PHP is a treatment option for those individuals requiring high intensity clinical care but not the full services of an inpatient facility. The goal of PHP is to provide structure, support and education to individuals on managing their illness and reducing the chance of relapse or re-hospitalization. The PHP group meets for three hours daily, including weekends and holidays.
  • The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a short-term, voluntary, 12-bed stabilization unit located at the S. Broadway location. Services are available to Lorain County residents. Admission, available 24/7, begins with a crisis assessment to determine that the CSU is appropriate for the person’s needs. While on the CSU, treatment needs are assessed and services are offered to meet those needs. The philosophy of the CSU is based on the Recovery Model and focuses on maximizing strengths, assessing risk, and offering support to each individual’s process of stabilization.
  • The Emergency/Crisis Hotline is a confidential support, referral and crisis evaluation service. Trained mental health professionals answer the hotline 24 hours, 7 days a week. Utilized by family members, neighbors, friends, landlords, clergy or other persons concerned about an individual, the Hotline offers support, will aid in stabilizing the crisis situation as well as provide appropriate referrals. If further stabilization is needed, a referral for an emergency assessment is made to the Mobile Crisis Team.

Crisis Text Line 741741

Crisis Text Line

Ohio has launched a new system enabling anyone in crisis to text for help.

The program allows people to text “4hope” to 741741 and receive a response within five minutes from a trained crisis counselor. An algorithm reviews text for severity, and messages that are determined to be from someone at imminent risk are placed at the top of the queue.

Texters will not be charged if utilizing a cell phone plan through AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, or Verizon, and nothing will appear on a phone bill. If your plan is with another carrier, standard messaging rates apply, and the short code 741741 will appear on your billing statement.

The program is the result of a partnership between the national Crisis Text Line and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS).
